Four Seasons: Ode to Jenny Jones

Jenny Jones was a fabulous teacher. She brought movement, music and colour to our elementary school with her dance program. I was in Grade Four when she came to bring Vivaldi's Four Seasons to life, and she chose me to dance as Summer in one of the shows... wearing pink of all colours! (pink was one of those taboo colours for redheads in those days). I moved through an imaginary world as the music played.

Many years later, our quilt guild had a seasonal fabric exchange and I was inspired to create this quilt in memory of Jenny, using black and white photos of our show overlaid with coloured organza, a mainstay of the flowing costumes we wore.

Unfortunately, Jenny passed away some years ago... but I was pleased to be able to pass the quilt along to her husband and daughter during a trip to British Columbia, in honour and gratitude for the joy she shared through dance.
